Education

The District Education Office Khyber District established since 12-07-1975 and currently stationed at Tehsil Jamrud. The District Education Office has continually been working to improve the literacy rate and quality of education in District. The department is headed by a Education officer, with its field staff in all three sub division of district. The department is responsible to furnish feasibility report and prepare PC-I for establishment and strengthening of existing educational institutions in district. The Education department besides the Annual Development Plan funds/schemes receives donor’s assistance in order to raise the standards and outreach of education in district.

C&W Department

 The Works and Services (W&SD) plays a significant role in the development of district, as it provides services in creating physical infrastructure related to building, roads, water supply and sanitation sectors. As an executing agency, it carries out construction on behalf of other line directorates.

It is headed by executive engineers, with Sub divisional engineer in each sub division. The major responsibilities of the department are to carry out surveys of sites, detail costing, construction supervision, quality control. Apart from this, the department carries out annual operation, maintenance and repair of physical assets.

Health

District Health Officer (DHO) control supervise all health facilities and developmental schemes in District. The aim of the department is to provide and promote better health care facilities and services to the inhabitant of district by preventing, decreasing mortality to improve health status and ensuring safety and security in maternal and child health services. The department executes, operate and maintains health facilities i.e CHCs, BHUs,  RHCs and Hospitals in all sub division of Khyber district

Agriculture

At District level Agriculture District Officers are appointed to supervise Agriculture extension related activities conducting in district. Office of the Agriculture District Officer Khyber was established back since 1954 and that time it was office of the Extra Assistant Director Agriculture Khyber.

The main function of the department includes introducing modern agriculture practices, conducting training of farmers to improve agricultural production, reclamation and development of cultivable waste land. All agriculture activities are time bounded so every year department conducts its activities in two main seasons named Rabi (Starts from November each year) and Kharif (Start from May)

Livestock & Dairy Development

The Department is headed by Assistant Director, with his field staff in each sub division in district. Its major responsibilities include, curing and vaccination of animals and birds against contagious diseases, breed improvement through artificial insemination in cattle and Buffaloes and distribution of elite Animals of sheep/ goat, introduction of rams (goat and sheep), undertaking developmental activities, improving production of milk, meat, egg and other livestock products, extension education of farmers, through Farm visits / Farmer meetings/ Field Days/ Exposure Visits.

Local Govt: & Rural Development Department

The Department of Local Government and Rural Development (LG&RD) is headed by Assistant Director with Sub Engineer 02 Nos, Supervisor, 02 Noa, Support Staff in district. The LG&RDD handles mostly small scale projects such as small gage solar based water supply schemes, sanitation, small roads i.e. farm to market roads. The department monitors and executes schemes under ADP and SDGs program, current practice for identification of schemes and projects is a combination of needs based demands of the community and consultations with the relevant authorities.

Social welfare

The department of social welfare is headed by Assistant Director with supporting staff in all Sub division of Khyber District. The mandate of Social Welfare Department is to provide wide range of welfare services, including services for the impoverished strata that include disabled and the elderly, rehabilitation and medical social services and child welfare services. The services have been framed with intent to provide immediate relief, and afterwards facilitate self-reliance and reintegration of beneficiaries into mainstream. The department allocates resources to the most needy to meet their basic needs and help them move from welfare to self-reliance.

Population welfare

The department of population welfare is headed by District population welfare officer with supporting staff in all Sub division of Khyber District. The aim of the department is to control population growth and to provide Reproductive Health Services especially to the marginalized is the priority of the department.

 Finance & Planning Department

Finance & Planning department was established in December, 2004 as a part of the governance agenda of the government, the project of the devolution of the governance to the grass roots level was implemented in the country. On the same pattern, the devolution of governance was also adopted in erstwhile FATA in order to devolve the functions of finance and planning departments of FATA Secretariat, which work under the administrative control of Secretary P&D and Finance Department, a joint finance and planning department has been created, which performed combined functions of both the departments at the Agency level in a similar fashion as it was created in settled areas of the KPK. While after merger of erstwhile FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province finance and planning department at district level work under the control of P&D and Finance department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Further, formulation of District ADP, Preparation of annual budget, dealing Account IV, Monitoring and evaluation is one primary function of Office of the F&P department at the district level to check and asses’ physical and financial progress and matters of the line departments in the District.
